Creativity and Originality in film and TV production.

Heartland Films is a film and TV production company aimed at producing new and exciting films for large and small screen.

We believe in the power of contemporary stories founded in strong mythical traditions and use both old and new technology to create ground-breaking drama.

"Stories are borne from people, landscapes and the rotation of the Earth. It's the inevitable clash of those that inform us of who, where and why we are here. Film and its various cousins are the most powerful expressions of our 'current world dilemma' and we need to fight hard to tell the stories that really count."

Wednesday, 12.19.2007 :: Always a Way

Sa Mon Di are a African High-life band desperate to explore the roots of their music in Ghana. Think that might take up some time during the early part of 2008.

Friday, 5.18.2007 :: Back ffrom this side of Eternity

Well, you have to put something grand in if you aint shown-up for a while. And then, one would ideally have something dramatic to report - a commission, funding, Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Wim Wenders, Alec Baldwin, James Lovelock, Brendan Marsalles, Enoch Powell, James Hunt... The list is endless!

Friday, 9.29.2006 :: You are what you eat...

And you eat what you feel... Which is why 'Falling Man' is worth keeping an eye on. Not that it has anything to do with food - but rather the instincts that underlie the science that rules us. Jeff is the news editor for the local newspaper who, contrary to all his training, finds himself believing in the speculation that there's a man falling from outerspace. The 'Falling Man' is orbiting the earth and is predicted - by a collection of dubious sources - to make landfall on Jeff's patch. When the trajectory changes to Europe, Jeff feels compelled to follow the star and, like one of the three wise men, begins his odyssey. Meanwhile, the intense and moody Sophie has just about had enough of her two travelling companions and with the myth of the Falling Man spreading like wild fire she determines to 'be there' when he lands... Sounds like some kind of off-beat romance is in the air!

Tuesday, 6.27.2006 :: De-coding infrastructure

It has to be done. Surely the world is not intransigent to the point of total curruption? And if it is, what more can be done to claw back our self-imposed destiny from the edge of the Abyss? The answer, whilst being of ultimate importance, is simple - CREATE SOMETHING. Latest fragment of a gem to arrive at the stable door is DEAD REF - a murder mystery of two halves. This appears at a time when the world confesses "football is not just a game - its a matter of life and death." The 'Poirot' of our Metaphysical journey is an Arsene Wenger who is keen not only to solve the mystery of how a Premiership referee was found dead after a crucial match, but also to probe the very nature and meaning of life and death. Writer on the case is Frank Foley who has an unfortunate liking of Spurs, but then just because Heartland is a West Ham kind of an outfit doesn't mean we can't 'play the game'. So may the best team win... Which they will thanks to some timely food poisoning.

Wednesday, 3.22.2006 :: Eastwood on board DANNY re-write

That's John, sorry Clint. John Eastwood has come in to do the DANNY FM re-write. We'd had a fantastic response to our ad for a writer to get under Danny's skin and inject a fresh angle on the, now quite mature, fourth draft. John has come in with a bundle of enthusiasm and a few awards under his belt and we look forward to seeing impact he may have on the project.

Saturday, 1.14.2006 :: The Mystery Unfolds

As 2006 lays out an uneventful menu I'm drawn to begin an elaboration on several past ideas... Weird City offered a door to mystery and multi-layered narrative. Another idea from my projects folder has 'Millieu' - a Cholmski-like professor struggling with his revelation of the world's dark fate. 'Parallel Trains' plays on the idea of important decisions being made by un-assuming characters that have far more clout than the puppet leaders visible in the daily news. 'When We Were Here Before' is a culmination of all those themes. Unlikely characters meeting in European cities and laying down paths that the blind unwittingly follow. THe dynamics of change being fought-out in a domestic context that has collanders and coffee cups turning civilization on its head. The suggestion in the title is that we have run this course before and that our evolution is running along strangely familiar tracks. we keep having that 'deja vous' moment but can't quite turn it round. This is urban shamanism dressed in the garb of the business world - a jigsaw narrative that audiences have to work hard to assemble. Delivered via various media and rooted to European cities whose mysteries, when viewed through the right lens, are glaringly visible and worryingly sinister. Shedule: Started yesterday. Delivery Second-by-second

Wednesday, 11.23.2005 :: K-City Overcomes

I'm not a concert promoter - but hey, its a good taste of the producer's lot. K-City Radio is a live music show performed in the style of a radio recording with station announcer, host and house band. Its happening at the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury and its not a million miles away from the film-making experience. I'm covering the evnt with 3 HDV cameras - not live-mixed but still directed as if it were... So, it feigns radio, feigns live TV and appears to be a live concert with real musicians... mmm, let me think about that one. Go check-out: www.kcityradio.co.uk
